TOP TIPS
- Always use a metal tape measure, fabric tape measures can stretch and be inaccurate.
- Take measurements in several places and give us the shortest measurement.
WIDTH OF CURTAINS
If you have a pole fitted measure from the end of one finial to the other like this:
If you have a track fitted measure between the hooks at each end like this:
If you do not have a track or pole fitted yet you should measure the width of the window (the recess width shown below) and add on at least 40cm. This is to allow room for the curtains to stack back when open without obscuring the window. If the window is wider than 2m you will need to add on 60cm.
DROP OF CURTAINS
Curtains on a pole should be measured from the hook drop position to where you wish them to finish.
Curtains on a track should be measured from the top of the track to where you wish them to finish.
Eyelet curtains – These must be measured slightly differently, measure from the top of the pole to where you would like them to finish and add on 3cm.
If you do not have a track or pole fitted, you will need to work out where it will be fitted above the window, to give you a guide, it would normally be about 15cm above the window.
For full length curtains, allow for curtains to finish 1cm above your flooring.
For curtains to sit on a sill, measure for curtains to finish 1cm above your sill.
Curtains which sit below a sill will usually be 10-15cm below to sill.
If the curtains need to clear a radiator, allow 2cm for this.
